Supports Annual Tax Increases
Summerlin Advocates for Annual Tax Increases
Mrs. Summerlin recently claimed she has NEVER voted to raise taxes, however, during her previous tenure on Kerrville City Council that is precisely what she did.
While the majority of Council ultimately approved a budget that lowered the property tax rate and froze the property tax revenues, Mrs Summerlin vigorously opposed this, denying the citizens a measure of tax relief.
During Kerrville City Council meeting on Sept. 12, 2017, Mrs Summerlin makes the motion to raise taxes.
During Kerrville City Council meeting on Sept. 26, 2017, Mrs. Summerlin reaffirms her vote to raise taxes, against Council and community support.
The Kerr Area Chamber of Commerce held a virtual forum for the current Kerrville City Council candidates on April 15, 2021. During this forum, Mrs. Summerlin first tried to imply that she had lowered the tax rate when she was on City Council back in 2017.
When her opponent pointed out that she in fact had voted against the Council majority by voting NOT to lower the tax rate, she conceded that was correct, however she then erroneously claimed that she had NEVER voted to raise taxes.
As is obvious from the video above, Mrs Summerlin not only voted against lowering the tax rate but actually made the motion and voted to raise taxes in her one and only opportunity to do so while on City Council. Her vote was in the minority of City Council, and was contrary to what other local taxing entities (Kerr County, City of Ingram, UGRA) were proposing for their tax rates at that time.
